As a Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader in California, your primary role is to facilitate and enhance the learning experience of students by providing additional academic support and resources. You will work closely with students, instructors, and academic staff to create a collaborative and engaging environment that promotes understanding, retention, and mastery of course content.
Responsibilities:

Group Facilitation: Lead small-group study sessions for students enrolled in specific courses, focusing on challenging topics and concepts. Create a comfortable and inclusive atmosphere that encourages active participation and open discussion.

Content Reinforcement: Help students review and reinforce key course concepts, theories, and problem-solving techniques. Clarify misunderstandings, address questions, and guide discussions to deepen understanding.

Interactive Learning Activities: Develop and implement interactive activities, exercises, and discussions that encourage critical thinking, application of knowledge, and collaborative problem-solving.

Study Strategies: Teach effective study techniques, time management, note-taking methods, and test preparation strategies to help students improve their academic skills.

Resource Creation: Develop supplemental materials, such as study guides, practice quizzes, flashcards, and visual aids, to support students' comprehension and retention of course content.

Individualized Support: Provide one-on-one assistance to students who need additional help, offering personalized guidance, clarifications, and support tailored to their learning needs.

Collaboration with Instructors: Maintain communication with course instructors to align SI sessions with classroom content and instructional goals. Collaborate on strategies to enhance students' academic success.

Progress Tracking: Monitor students' participation and progress throughout the semester. Offer feedback and suggestions for improvement based on observations and assessment.

Data Collection: Collect and analyze data related to student attendance, engagement, and academic performance. Use data to make informed decisions on session content and format.

Workshops and Training: Organize and facilitate workshops and training sessions for students on topics such as study skills, time management, and effective learning strategies.

Qualifications:
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in a California college or university.
- Strong academic performance and expertise in the subject area you will be supporting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and engage students in discussions.
- Empathy, patience, and enthusiasm for helping peers succeed academically.
- Ability to create engaging and interactive learning experiences for diverse groups of students.
- Previous experience in tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or leading study groups is a plus.
- Familiarity with effective study strategies, learning techniques, and educational resources.
- Proficiency in using technology for online communication, scheduling, and resource sharing.
- Organizational skills to manage session schedules, materials, and student attendance records.
