Pressure by schools to achieve top scores and excel has always created stress levels among students, but that’s not all there are some teachers who go way beyond in increasing that pressure. The cause for students’ stress is often blamed on a heavy workload such as standardized tests, weekly assignments and long projects and the difficult classes given by teachers.
Such hectic schedules in schools make it difficult for the students to stand their professors and in return hampers their performance and even depletes their health. In a recent study done at the University of British Columbia, there is an evidence that shows if the teachers are stressing, it’s bound to be passed on to their students. Researchers collected more than 400 saliva samples from elementary students and found that the hormone levels indicated that stress and cortisol, was higher among students who had teachers that were more emotionally exhausted.
The fact is still unknown what came first the exhausted teacher or the raised cortisol level said Eva Oberle, the author of the study. But before you put the blame entirely on teachers; just think once that you yourself can also be a stress creator.
No matter whoever creates the stress, extreme levels of stress leads to anxiety, depression, headaches, drug use etc. A proper sleep, following a healthy diet, exercising regularly etc. are a few simple steps which will help in curbing down stress and stay positive.
